FAQs

Here is a list of our most Frequently Asked Questions. If you can't find the answer you're looking for, please email us and we'll provide all the details you need.

How do I book the quartet?

Call Alexis for a quote. Once terms and details of your event have been agreed, a contract will be sent out to you, either by post or email. Once you have returned the signed contract along with a deposit, your booking is confirmed.

Where can I hear you play?

Each member of the quartet has a busy professional life outside of the quartet. Take a look at our biographies for more information. As an ensemble, we often play in public spaces. Ask Alexis if we have any such performances in the calendar.

How much do you cost to hire?

That depends on how far we need to travel and how long you would like us to play for. If you email or phone us, we will give you a quote based on these, plus any other considerations.

Will the quartet be exactly the same musicians I can see in the photographs?

The members of the Thames Quartet aim to fulfil all their bookings themselves to maintain their excellent standard of performance. However, in the event that one of our members is unavailable to play, we have a trusted pool of exceptional musicians from whom we can draw. We all went to top music colleges and we know the best people.

I have a song / piece that I would like to be played at my function but it's not on your repertoire list. Does that mean you can’t play it?

No – our viola player Alexis is a professional composer and arranger, and is happy to prepare any requests for you given adequate notice. There will be an additional fee for this, although it is relatively small. To see what Alexis gets up to when not playing with the Thames Quartet, please go to www.alexisbennett.co.uk

Can you play hymns?

Yes, but we’ll need plenty of notice so that we can get hold of the music and arrange it if necessary (see above).

What do you wear when you play?

That is up to you (within reason!). Usually smart all-black, but sometimes black tie / evening dress. Clothing, travel, cancellation and everything else is covered on our contract. If you’d like a copy to read over, please let us know.
